Pleasure Guttus

Los Angeles | March 6 - April 17, 2021
Press: ARTFORUM

Pleasure Guttus is a pouring vessel decorated with images. An artifact which now teems with dirt, a finger is slipped through its ring to drip oil. Through the mixture’s smokey film, a flutter of a past life. The guttus is full and snug around a digit, poised to overfill.

Justin Ortiz (b.1998, New York) lives and works in Los Angeles. He holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received fellowships from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts (2017) and Bethany Arts Community (2018). In 2020 Ortiz founded Garthim, a wandering project space which he currently directs and curates. Ortiz has a forthcoming solo presentation with Light Harvesting Complex in Vantaa, Finland and his work has appeared in numerous group exhibitions including with ADDS DONNA, Chicago; Apartment 13 Gallery, Providence; Bastione San Maurizio, Turin, Italy; Corso Brescia 23, Turin, Italy; Final Hot Desert, Minersville, Utah; Lichen Works, Chicago; Sinkhole Project, Baltimore; The Pool, Heybeliada, Istanbul.
