CLARE BREW
SHRINELos Angeles | JULY 30th - AUGUST 21st 2023
“Shrine celebrates the freedom found when you look under the rock and see a great light source.”
Clare Brew’s “SHRINE” is an installation of light sculptures made in response to the specific light, location and dimensions of five car garage. The light and space movement has always been an inspiration and this has relevance here. Please note as the light moves during the day we are altering the garage doors, from partially closed to fully open to maintain the light balance of the “magic hour.” We will create special open hours and events for the month long duration. Stay tuned. The seven works : Moon Age, Break it Sundown, Barcelona, Space Lemon, Flair, Palm Springs, Week in Provence - are wall assemblages of painted plywood and neon line.
‘I like to see all the elements exposed as they are always in my vision, like working inside out on a dress-making pattern’. From an early age Clare has been interested in taking things apart. Her forms and rebuilding of spaces are instinctive and often called carefully curated gestures, the works are often left to evolve over time. At 53 years old and living in both New York and London she finds inspiration in travel, antiques markets, and tools. Shrine celebrates the freedom found when you look under the rock and see a great light source.
